Series
Mendota, IL – July 21st,
2007
By Nikki Dixon
Ryan Poulter and
James Polvolny (98)
unleashed
another fierce night of racing at round six of the Megacross Shootout Series.
Poulter topped the competitive 125A and 250A classes, and Polvolny carded
wins in the stacked vet classes, and finished second behind Poulter in 250A. Chase Sexton, Maxx Malatia, and Josh Provost were also double
class winners. Over 350 entrants
enjoyed another fun and exciting night of racing at the Tri-County Fairgrounds.
In the 16-rider 250A
class, Povolny proved that Poulter (27) isn’t unbeatable by taking the
heat-race win, holding off Poulter’s pressure to the finish.
But in the main, it was all Poulter, as he led from wire-to-wire.
Povolny and Justin Kelly followed Poulter around the first turn, with
Markwardt passing Kelly on the opening lap.
Poulter hammered down for seven laps to the checkered flag, trailed by
Povolny, Markwardt, Kelly, and Brandon Bartz.
Poulter grabbed
another holeshot in 125A, with Markwardt and Kelly in tow. Poulter stayed ahead to the finish, but Markwardt kept
Poulter in sights for all seven laps. Kelly
edged out Brad Fabrizius and Kyle White in the battle for third.
Heat-race runner-up Roy Horton went down in a turn, resulting in a DNF.
In 25+A, Bartz won the heat
race, over Povolny and Greg Braet. In
the main, Povolny picked up the holeshot, followed by Braet and Bartz.
Braet bobbled on the first lap, and dropped out of the top ten, while
Bartz and Burton Lavens moved into second and third.
Greg Hochmuth reeled in Lavens mid-race, while Braet was on a mission to
get back into the top five. Bartz
shadowed Povlony the whole race, but couldn’t make a pass.
Povolny captured the win, with Bartz, Hochmuth, Braet, and Lavens
completing the top five. Povolny
also topped 30+A over Braet, Lavens, Michael Hall, and David Hayes.
Matt Entwistle
(228)
led the way in the 11-rider 25+B class on the first lap, as Ryan George and Todd
Schmollinger avoided a pile-up in the bowl turn.
Entwistle rode a strong race for the win, mixed in the pack with the 25+A
riders. Second place George crashed
out, allowing Schmollinger and heat-race winner Joe Kopecky to wrap up the top
three.
David Hayes went
wire-to-wire for the 40+ victory. Keith
Hicks and David Degelau followed Hayes around the first turn.
Hayes cruised to the finish, as Degelau passed Hicks in the whoops and
finished second. Hicks held off
Larry Bank’s charge for third, with Banks and Peter Witkowski completing the
top five.
Ed Norred and Colton
Krska battled in 50 Junior and 50 Injected, splitting the wins.
In 50 Junior, Krska picked up the holeshot, and led most of the race,
until the last lap. Norred passed
into the lead while they entered the rhythm section, but Krska took it back over
the step-up. Then through the last
turn, Norred railed the outside to take the win by inches.
Krska topped the 19-rider field in 50 Injected, holding off Norred from
start to finish.
Chase Sexton carded a pair
of wins in 50 Senior and 65 Junior. In
50 Senior, Austin Kukla and Sexton went side-by-side in the start, with Sexton
pulling ahead and sprinting to the finish.
Kukla and Anthony Wallace rounded out the top three.
In the 14-rider 65 Junior class, Nick Wallace grabbed the heat-race win,
as Sexton started back in the pack. But
in the main, Sexton went wire-to-wire for the win.
Chad Saultz and Wallace mixed it up for second, with Wallace getting the
nod.
In 65 Senior, Logan Skaggs
shook off a fourth place ride in the heat race, and picked up the holeshot in
the main, followed by Sam Shamie and heat-race winner Chad West.
Skaggs stayed out front to the checkers, with West taking second.
Shamie held off Jacob Wever in a battle for third, and Travis Ward
wrapped up the top five.
Maxx Malatia (55) was
unstoppable in 85 Senior and Super mini, acing both heats and mains.
In the 19-rider 85 Senior class, Malatia led from start to finish,
followed by Hyson. Rick Nichol
picked off Chris West and Nick Inman to finish third after a bad start.
Malatia also dominated in Supermini, getting a huge jump out of the gate,
and checking out. Hyson carded
another second place finish, while Nichol slid out in a turn while in third. Inman took over the third spot and held off a pack of riders
to the finish.
250B had some new
faces running up front, with Aaron Hart taking the heat-race win, and Cesar Vega
winning the main. Vega started out
front in the main, trailed by Nick Manning, Bill Chrisos and Hart.
Chrisos and Hart bumped over a jump, as Hart moved into third, and set
his sights on Manning. By mid-race, Hart had passed Manning, and was all over Vega,
as Denny Morsch joined the battle for the lead.
On the last lap, it was a three-way fight to the checkers, as Hart slid
sideways as he tried to go inside in the small whoop section for the lead.
This opened the door for Vega to secure the win, followed by Morsch,
Hart, Manning, and Kyle Dunkin.
Alex Zimmerman
grabbed the holeshot in 18-rider 250C class, trailed by Adam Fusinetti and James
Mesch, who went down in the off-camber. Zimmerman
stayed out front to the checkered flag, while Spencer Neurohr passed several
riders to finish second. Fusinetti,
Cody Gehant, and Nathan Tornow completed the top five.
In Quad A, Justin Medine
and Zachary Harris went bar-to-bar through the first turn, with Harris pulling
ahead. Heat-race winner Jason
Wehrli passed Medine for second mid-race. Harris
carded the win, with Wehrli second. Medine, Stephen Schenk, and Jeremy Beetz diced for third,
with Medine getting the edge.
After a sixth place
heat-race finish, Jory Dalsanto led the way in the Quad B main, with Charlie
Snow and Jaden Landwehr in tow. Zack
Sondgeroth worked past Landwehr for third, and Dalsanto, Snow, and Sondgeroth
had a close race as they dashed to the checkers. Dalsanto held on for the win, over Snow, Sondgeroth, Landwehr,
and John Biddle.
